The central Great Hall in the University of Hong Kong is named after British Malayan Mr. Loke Yew, a benefactor of the University in its early years. Loke Yew Hall was named after Mr. Loke Yew who collected $55,000 for the endowment fund in 1912 and made a loan of $500,000 to HKU interest-free for 25 years.
Another great businessman and philanthropist born in Penang, Mr. Eu Tong Sen also donated $55,000 to HKU in 1918.
By carrying on the tradition of our fellow countrymen a century ago, The Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (Hong Kong and Macau) recognizes the importance of providing support for education, and has made it a cornerstone of its social responsibility programme.
